✨ Why I’m Going to Stop Labelling Myself as a
“Documentary” “Candid” “Editorial” or “Natural”
Photographer ✨

Let’s talk frankly. 👊

When I began wedding photography, I felt pressured to use trendy labels to gain credibility:

👉Documentary
👉Editorial
👉Natural
👉Candid

I plastered these terms on my website and socials, believing I needed to shout them for recognition.

After 🔟 years and over 850 weddings, I realise those words don’t hold much significance. They sound impressive and can make my style feel exclusive, but the truth is, as photographers, WE EMBODY ALL THESE STYLES ON ANY GIVEN WEDDING DAY.

🤜You want documentary? You’ll find it when I quietly capture your parents holding hands during your vows.

🤜You want candid? That’s there when you burst into tears during the ceremony.

🤜 You want editorial? Wait until I photograph you in golden-hour light with your dress perfectly fanned out.

🤜You want natural? That’s every genuine moment I don’t have to direct at all.

Weddings are dynamic, beautifully chaotic, and emotionally rich and I refuse to confine myself to 1️⃣ label.

👉 I’ve seen photographers advertise themselves as “pure documentary,” yet still step in to pose the couple for portraits.

👉 I’ve seen “candid photographers” orchestrate the entire confetti shot (because, let’s be honest, that moment doesn’t happen by accident).

👉 And I’ve seen “editorial photographers” catch the most beautiful, unscripted tears.

So, I’m dropping the labels and over the next few months will be removing these buzzwords from my website. I aim to tell your story beautifully and honestly, in the moment.

If that resonates with you, let’s connect. No buzzwords necessary.

😀 PRO TIP: If someone claims to be labeled, check their work.

I can almost guarantee you A “candid” photographer will still ask you to pose.
