Wedding Morning Prep – Do’s and Don’ts for our Brides & Grooms
The morning of your wedding sets the tone for the entire day. It’s a time filled with excitement, anticipation, and maybe even a few nerves. Getting the right balance between relaxation and preparation can make all the difference in how smoothly your day unfolds — and how stunning your photos turn out!
As photographers, we’ve seen it all — from flawless mornings to total chaos. So here are our top do’s and don’ts to help you make the most of your wedding morning and ensure everything runs like a dream.
⸻
✅ DO’S
1. Start the Day Early
Time flies on your wedding day! Plan to start getting ready earlier than you think you need to — this gives you a buffer in case of any last-minute hiccups. Aim to have hair and makeup finished at least an hour before your photographer’s need to leave so you have time for touch-ups and relaxed portraits.
⸻
2. Keep the Space Tidy
Clutter can be a photographer’s nightmare! A clean, organised space makes for cleaner, more beautiful shots. Designate a corner or a room for bags, dresses, and supplies — and try to keep the getting-ready area tidy.
⸻
3. Choose a Light-Filled Room
Natural light is your best friend for those dreamy photos. If possible, get ready in a room with large windows or lots of natural light — it makes a huge difference in how your skin tones and dress details are captured.
⸻
4. Have Your Details Ready
Lay out all your important items before the photographer arrives:
✔️ Dress
✔️ Shoes
✔️ Jewellery
✔️ Invitations
✔️ Perfume
✔️ Any sentimental keepsakes (like a family heirloom or special gift)
This allows the photographer to capture those meaningful details while you’re getting ready.
⸻
5. Surround Yourself with Calm, Positive People
The energy in the room matters! Choose to have your closest, most supportive friends and family with you during prep. Keep the atmosphere light and fun — a glass of champagne, some music, and a relaxed vibe will make all the difference.
⸻
6. Wear a Nice Robe or Outfit
Photos of you getting ready will become part of your wedding story, so wear something stylish and comfortable — a silk robe or matching pyjama set always looks great in photos.
⸻
7. Stay Hydrated and Eat Something!
It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement and forget to eat — but you don’t want to feel faint halfway down the aisle! Have some light snacks and plenty of water on hand.
⸻
8. If You’ve Booked Your Own Hair and Makeup Artist, Make Sure They Stick to the Schedule
Timing is everything on your wedding day! If you’ve hired your own hair and makeup artist, make sure they’re aware of the wedding day timeline and understand how important it is to stay on track.
•Share the schedule from your planner with them in advance.
•Factor in extra time for any adjustments or touch-ups.
•Ideally, hair and makeup should be completed at least an hour before you need to leave — this allows time for getting dressed, a few portraits, and any final tweaks.
A delay in hair and makeup can disrupt the entire schedule and limit the time your photographers have to capture those special moments. Don’t hesitate to speak up if things start running behind — it’s your day, and you deserve to feel calm, prepared, and stress-free!
⸻
🚫 DON’TS
1. Don’t Overcrowd the Room
Too many people in the room = stress + chaos. Keep the number of people in the getting-ready area to a minimum. A calm, organised atmosphere makes for better energy (and better photos!).
⸻
2. Don’t Skip Hair and Makeup Trials
The last thing you want on your wedding day is to realise you hate your makeup or your curls are falling flat. If possible do a trial run well in advance, even at home before you get to Cyprus so you know exactly what to expect. Make sure you have photos to show your hair and makeup artists for reference.
⸻
3. Don’t Stress About the Schedule
Trust your planner and your photographer to keep things moving. If things run a few minutes behind, it’s not the end of the world — your photographer will know how to adjust to keep the timeline on track.
⸻
4. Don’t Forget to Remove Tags and Stickers
Nothing ruins a close-up of your gorgeous shoes or dress like a price tag peeking out. Double-check that all labels and stickers are removed before the photographer starts capturing details.
⸻
5. Don’t Rush the First Look (if you’re doing one)
If you’ve planned a first look with your parents or bridesmaids, make sure you allow enough time to really enjoy it. This is one of the most intimate, emotional moments of the day — don’t let it feel rushed.
⸻
6. Don’t Forget to Delegate
You shouldn’t be the one worrying about last-minute details. Give your bridesmaids or a trusted friend a list of tasks so you can stay focused on the excitement of the day.
⸻
7. Don’t Let the Nerves Get to You
It’s natural to feel a little jittery, but don’t let it take over. Take a few deep breaths, soak in the moment, and remember — this day is about love, not perfection.
⸻
8. Don’t drink too much
✔️ Pace Yourself with the Drinks – It’s tempting to celebrate with a few extra drinks, but too much alcohol can leave you feeling off-balance and tired — not to mention affecting how you look and feel in photos. Enjoy a few drinks, but remember to stay hydrated and keep a clear head so you can fully soak in every moment.
⸻
🌟 Bonus Tips for the Groom
•Make sure your suit is steamed and wrinkle-free the night before.
•Pack a small kit with essentials like mints & tissues.
•Bring an extra shirt with you, especially if you are wearing a full suit, you will get sweaty!
•If you’re wearing a tie, bowtie, cufflinks or pocket square practice putting them on ahead of time!
•Keep your pockets empty, nothing wrong then seeing a big bulge caused by a phone or wallet.
•Keep your phone (and your best man’s phone) on silent once you’re dressed — nothing kills a romantic vibe like a phone call mid-ceremony. Also ask all guests to switch to silent.
•Take a moment to check in with your partner, even if it’s just a quick text — it helps calm the nerves!
⸻
Final Thought
The wedding morning is about more than just getting ready — it’s the first chapter of the day you’ll remember forever. By staying calm, organised, and present in the moment, you’ll set the perfect tone for an incredible day.
And remember — your photographers are there to capture the beauty of it all, so relax and enjoy every moment. You’ve got this! ❤️
AND make sure you have fun.
